I went with the meme-ije and stole this quiz from the journal of Sir Van du'Vere.

Your rainbow is shaded violet.

What is says about you: You are a creative person. You appreciate beauty and craftsmanship. You are patient and will keep trying to understand something until you've mastered it.

Find the colors of your rainbow at spacefem.com.

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 234.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next four to seven sentences on your LJ along with these instructions.
5. Don't you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest [unless it's too troublesome to reach and is really heavy. Then go back to step 1].

"Oblonsky had gone to Petersburg to fulfil a very necessary duty---which to officials seems most natural and familiar, though to laymen it is incomprehensible--that of reminding the Ministry of his existence, without the performance of which rite continuance in Government service is impossible. Having taken away with him all the money there was in the house, he contrived while attending to duty to pass his time very pleasantly, going to races and visiting at country houses. Meanwhile, to curtail expenses, Dolly and her children moved to the country. She went to Ergushevo, the estate which had formed part of her dowry, about thirty-five miles distant from Levin's Pokrovsk, and the very place where in spring the forest had been sold."

Tolstoy, Leo. Anna Karenina. Louise and Aylmer Maude, translators. New York: Dover, 2004.

So I saw enough people doing this that I finally got curious enough to do it myself. Cheers to killing 5 seconds of my time! Apparently I've been at this journal long enough to have racked up a much larger number than I expected.

Find out who's been following along... )

80 words

free Touch typing

And that's with no mistakes... not bad, but not as good as I once was. Although it's hard to take a typing test that is random words as opposed to sentences. Back when I was taking typing classes in elementary school my average was 96 wpm with no mistakes, which was actually the same as the teacher. It was fun to have races with her.

Meme time.

Because I did this to [livejournal.com profile] darkneuro.
One word to describe me... just one single word. Leave it in my comments section. Then post this original message on your journal and see how many strange and interesting things people say about you.

The results are interesting, but in a way I'm not too surprised... )

The two candidates I thought I would go for are only separated by a 5% difference, after all.

The Rules.
1. Leave me a comment saying anything random, like your favorite lyric to your current favorite song, or your favorite kind of sandwich. Something random. Whatever you like.
2. I respond by asking you five personal questions so I can get to know you better.
3. You WILL update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and offer to ask someone else in the post.
5. When others comment asking to be asked, you will ask them five questions.

My comment:
"Therrre's someone on the wing.... Some thing."

[livejournal.com profile] imajicat's questions:

1. Which is more important, intellect or beauty? Why?
Intellect. Beauty can fade, but intellect only grows.

2. What do you really fear? (and don’t you dare say something like spiders)
Aside from a fear of falling, I'd have to say I fear rejection. I have a fear that my friends only keep me around because they feel they have to, not because they want to. I think this stems from when I was growing up: I had a marked inability to keep friends from one school year to the next, and had some [probably] irrational thought that they only put up with me because there was no one else to spend the lunch hour with or get the homework from. I know, I know. Silly.

3. BDSM- why submissive/masochist? What do you get from it/what does it do for you?
I'm neurotic, and a control freak. Being submissive allows me a release of the tension that causes, as well as an escape from the norm. It allows me to let go; it's therapeutic.

4. Polyamory – why do you support/practice? Does it ever leave you feeling like something is missing or is it very fulfilling?
I like being able to have variety without compromising my integrity. With properly practiced polyamory everything is on the table, and everyone knows what's going on. I find it very fulfilling. Because I'm not locked into a single relationship I'm not left unsatisfied. It allows me to to find everything I want/need.

5. Can you recall an exact moment in your life when you had a consious awareness of comfort, contentment, happiness, beauty, etc.? where were you, what was happening, what was it like?
Wow... that's a tough one. The one that comes to mind is getting Rorschach. My friend and I had to drive way out to this ranch south of Tijeras. It took like an hour and a half to get there. Riding home, he just laid in my lap with his fuzzy, soft fur and tiny paws. I was so happy to have him.

If you comment on this post, I will choose seven interests from your profile and you will explain what they mean and why you are interested in them. Post this along with your answers in your own journal so that others can play along.

A list of interests from [livejournal.com profile] darkneuro

1. classical
The music, that is. Mozart, Schubert, Bach, Beethoven, etc. It is some of my favorite music to listen to. And also very inspiring for me, especially as a pianist.

2. passion
I think it's important to be passionate about things. My passions are the things that inspire me most. That make me feel human. Passion is also one of the necessities in any successful relationship (be it a friendship or more). If I ever get around to getting that tattoo I've contemplated for years now, this will be a portion of it.

3. jargon
Words particular to a specific realm of knowledge (e.g. medical words like "cellulitis" and "hyperglycemia"). The word itself entertains me because "jargon" is totally a $10 vocab word. It's like the opposite of an oxymoron, if ya know what I mean.

4. kool aid
Is one of my favorite drinks. I hate the way tap water tastes, so I tend to make sure I keep a good supply of kool aid around so that I stay hydrated (even if there's sugar involved). Plus, it's cheaper than soda or juice.

5. metafiction
Fiction that is conscious of itself and thereby calls attention to itself as a work of fiction. By self-consciously displaying all the realms of fiction, it has pointed out all the realms of our knowledge. It mediates our notions of what the world is like and thus determines what our constructions of reality are. It's a very entertaining genre of fiction. It doesn't follow a linear plotline, and typically uses various forms of structure. I likes it.

6. respect
It's important to respect people. I give someone my respect until they give me a reason not to. Also a necessary aspect of any relationship. This is also one of the aspects of that potential tattoo of mine.

7. vanity
See my post with answers to selections by [livejournal.com profile] cathyn.

And I finally gave in to it.

1. cheese soda
This actually came about via [livejournal.com profile] intravenousants. One day she was reading my journal over my shoulder (the hardcopy one, for lack of a better distinction), wherein I was listing random foodstuffs I enjoy. I had listed "cheese" and "soda," but she missed the comma. She exclaimed with disgust, "CHEESE SODA!?! Gross!" It's been a joke ever since, and a google search will bring up some very silly--sometimes disturbing--images.

2. hopeless romanticism
I am a hopeless romantic. To the core. It's a quality I embrace in myself, although not required in others. This means I'm a sucker for things like silly stuff sent via snail mail and movies like Serendipity.

3. impressionism
Referring to the impressionist artists. Monet, Manet, Renoir, Van Gogh, Seurat. Not only is it my favorite genre of art, it is one of my primary influences as an artist. After fostering an interest when I was young, I became fully enamored with their work upon seeing a travelling collection of various works on loan from the Louvre at the Denver Art Museum when I was 14. I once claimed in a high school project that I intended to own several original works by the time I retired (we'll see if it happens... I've got time).

4. partly cloudy days
My favorite sort of days in terms of weather conditions. Altocumulus clouds dotting the sky to help prevent the burning of the skin, but enough sunlight to still be cheery.

5. pyrophilia
I like to burn things. A lot. Luckily I'm good about keeping it in check, or I would've managed to burn my house down by now or something.

6. tall skinny white guys
Although I have wide ranging tastes as far as what I consider aesthetically pleasing in the opposite sex, I find them the most alluring. There's no explicit reason why, however.

7. vanity
I have a lot of vanity, despite being less than perfect (this typically leads to self-consciousness on my part). The concept fascinates me, particularly how it is exhibited in satirical literature. See Thackeray's Vanity Fair.

Your home is a

Magic Magnate's Manor

Your kitchen is someplace you never go, because you "have people for that." There's a Chocolatessen, which is rapidly becoming your favorite room of the house. Having one is also becoming a trend among your wealthy neighbors. Your master bedroom is the size of a small barn, with carpet thick enough to reach your ankles. Your study has hardback editions of every classic ever written, plus a special edition of Rich Dad, Poor Dad with the parts you ghost-authored highlighted. One of your garages holds your collection of ferraris, and is measured in acreage.

Your home also includes a guest wing and private quarters for your servants. Your guests enjoy your home theater with hi-def plasma screen TV, and the thrones you watch it from. Outside is your hedge maze and gardens, meticulously tended by a team of world-class botanists.

And, you have a pet -- a doberman pincer named "Warren" an Australian sheppard named "Rorschach".

Below is a snippet of the blueprints:

51% Affectionate, 22% Excitable, 55% Hungry

You are the classic Shakespearian tragedy of the lolcat universe. The sad story of a baking a cookie, succumbing to gluttony, and in turn consuming the very cookie that was to be offered. Bad grammar ensues.

It's a meme thing.
The rules:

1. Leave me a comment saying anything random, like your favorite lyric to your current favorite song. Or your favorite kind of sandwich. Something random. Whatever you like.
2. I respond by asking you five personal questions so I can get to know you better.
3. You WILL update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and offer to ask someone else in the post.
5. When others comment asking to be asked, you will ask them five questions

My questions and answers:
Won't you take me to funkytown?

1. I cannot get the image of you at the Halloween 05 party with that tail out of my head. What exactly was that tail made of?
2. Are you a lover or a fighter?
3. Have you finished your homework?
4. If you were stranded on a deserted island (please note, this is NOT a 'desert' island, just deserted) and everything was provided for you, what would you request that you be provided with for sheer entertainment value?
5. Red or White?

1. I cut that tail off of a kid's dinosaur costume. It wasn't stuffed and therefore didn't stick out, so I used to remaining portions of the dinosaur to fill it for the desired effect. Hooray for cast off clothing from thrift stores!
2. I'd say I'm a lover. If threatened, however, I'm willing to fight and stand up for myself in extreme circumstances.
3. For the time being, the homework is completed. When the fall semester rolls around it'll being a different scenario involving about 5 straight months of unfinished homework cycles. *sheepish grin*
4. A book a day most definitely (preferably fiction, but I wouldn't mind starting off with a survival manual of sorts). I can read for hours on end. Not to mention, I figure there's enough books in the world I wouldn't have to worry about running out of entertainment before I got off the island.
5. Mmm mmm red. Damnit... now I have to go buy some wine (not that this is a bad thing, but I'm feeling lazy and such a venture requires leaving the house).

You scored as Spiritual Atheist, Ah! Some of the coolest people in the world are Spiritual Atheists. Most of them weren't brought up in an organized religion and have very little baggage. They concentrate on making the world a better place and know that death is just another part of life. What comes after, comes after.
